Spanish Lessons New York
Our experienced, fully bilingual educators provide Spanish Lessons for all ages of student and all levels of proficiency. We work with students who are seeking to learn Spanish for professional advancement, personal satisfaction, or academic achievement. In all cases, we start with an assessment of the individual's pre-existing skills and goals and then develop a personalized program to meet that student's needs.
Although we specialize in one-on-one Spanish Lessons, we are also happy to arrange semi-private Spanish lessons.
Spanish Lessons for Pre-School and Elementary School Aged Children
Our Spanish tutoring for young children is playful, fun, and age-appropriate. Young children learn through play and, in particular, they have the ability to learn language naturally through interaction with a Spanish-speaking adult. A Spanish tutoring session for a young child might contain songs sung in Spanish, games played in Spanish, and Spanish picture books.
Spanish lessons for very young children take the form of mommy (or daddy or nanny) and me classes.
New York State Spanish Regents
The New York State Spanish Regents exam tests students' ability to read, write, speak, and listen in Spanish. The Spanish Regents is not a particularly "tricky" test; it is designed to assess a student's actual knowledge of the Spanish language rather than test-taking skills. For this reason, we primarily work with our Spanish Regents prep students to improve their fundamental skills in Spanish. Of course, we still make sure our students are thoroughly familiar with the format of the exam and we strongly emphasize the content that is found on the Spanish Regents.
We use a variety of educational techniques to boost real understanding of the Spanish language. Because we work with students individually or in very small groups, we are able to tailor our instruction specifically to the needs of each individual student. Although it is impossible to achieve fluency overnight, we pride ourselves on quickly improving our students' confidence in Spanish and performance on the Spanish Regents exam.
Spanish SAT Subject Test (formerly the SAT II: Subject Test in Spanish)
At New York Academics, we know the Spanish SAT Subject Test very well and use education techniques designed to boost real understanding of the Spanish language to help our students excel on this important exam that is used for both college admissions and placement in college classes.
Unlike the "regular SAT", the Spanish SAT Subject Test is not particularly "tricky". It is a content exam and the students who do the best are generally the students who have the greatest knowledge of the Spanish language. For this reason, we concentrate heavily on improving our students' overall achievement in Spanish.
The Spanish SAT Subject Test comes in two forms: The Spanish SAT Subject Test and the SAT Subject Test with Listening. The Spanish SAT Subject test without listening tests students exclusively on their ability to read in Spanish. The Spanish SAT Subject Test with Listening tests students on both their ability to understand spoken Spanish and on their ability to read Spanish. Speaking and writing are not tested in either version of the test.
The Spanish SAT Subject Test with Listening is probably a slightly more valuable exam to take, but it is only offered once each year, in November. The test without listening is offered seven times a year.
Spanish Lessons for Professionals
Worldwide, it is estimated that approximately 330 million people speak Spanish and Spanish is often considered the second language of New York City. It's no wonder that so many professionals find that learning Spanish is important for their careers. At New York Academics, our Spanish tutors are fully bilingual in Spanish and English. They are also experienced educators able to provide both conversation practice and clear, specific explanations of Spanish grammar.
We understand how difficult it is for busy professionals to fit Spanish lessons into their lives- that's why we go to you. We strive to make our Spanish tutoring for professionals fit into your life in a way that makes study sustainable. We go to your home, office, or other location (throughout Manhattan; call for outer borough availability) at a time that is convenient for you.
The best way to learn Spanish is with lots of individual attention from a teacher. That's why we only offer one-on-one tutoring and very small group lessons. With such small groups, we can ensure that each lesson is tailored to your specific needs. With us, you'll not only be speaking Spanish from the very first lesson, but you'll also be using the Spanish vocabulary that is most relevant to your profession from day one.
